Simple Triggers

Simple Triggers There’s a pull-up bar at the bottom of my stairs. My writing space is upstairs, so each time I head downstairs I bust out six quick pull-ups: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. These six take less than 20 seconds, no time at all in the grand scheme of things. That’s not the point, though: the point is each time I go downstairsâ€"on my way to the kitchen, the shower, or the great outdoorsâ€"I do some pull-ups. One triggers the other. It’s habitual. Now on an average day I sneak in an extra 60-or-so pull-ups. Every habit has its trigger. Most of the time we don’t know our triggers, though, and much of the time we unconsciously trigger bad habits: finishing a meal triggers a cigarette, arriving home triggers hours of TV viewing, incessant alcohol consumption triggers arguing with loved ones. We can, however, change our behaviors. Be it exercise or diet or even flossing our teeth, we can trigger positive habitsâ€"using positive triggers. Small triggers create tiny habits that produce huge results over time. The right triggers can flip your life upside downâ€"in a good way. Descending the stairs is one of my simple triggers. Water conservation can be defined as (a) any beneficial reduction in water loss, use or waste as well as the preservation of water quality, (b) a reduction in water use accomplished by implementation of water conservation or water efficiency measures or, (c) improved water management practices that reduce or enhance the beneficial use of water. A water conservation measure is an action, behavioural change, device, technology, or improved design or process implemented to reduce water loss, waste, or use. Water efficiency is a tool of water conservation. That results in more efficient water use and thus reduces water demand. The value and cost-effectiveness of a water efficiency measure must be evaluated in relation to its effects on the use and cost of other natural resources (e.g. Energy or chemicals). Water can be conserved in a lot of ways and most of us are aware of those means. It is our duty to actually implement those in our daily life.Show MoreRelatedPublic Environmental Aware ness and Education1615 Words   |  7 PagesPublic Environmental Awareness and Education Action can be taken in a variety of areas to increase environmental awareness and education. Initially we will only limit our geographical scope to Dhaka and then after initial success we will expand our target segments. We expect we will cover almost 30%-40% of Dhaka’s population which could be almost one million we expect that out of these 30%-40% we will capture 60%-70% of the market. Direct competitors We don’t have direct competitors in our product however in substitute products we have mainly big companies like: Pran, Shezan, Akiz, Partex etc. Marketing Business opportunity This is the business plan of a partnership in the name of Sugarcane juice. The plan is to process and market the high-quality sugarcane juice. First time in Bangladesh, juice will be preserved in tin pack keeping them as fresh as at time of extraction. Till now market deals in fresh fruit juices which can be easily preserved however this idea has not been catered yet. Collecting raw materials Bangladesh country is an agricultural country. In North Bengal the farmers produce a huge amount of sugarcane. So it is a great opportunities for us to collect our raw materials. 1st year we buy our raw materials from those farmer. It needs not to be marketed so much because it’s a new thing which people will try and love a lot. Simply we can place it in universities cafeterias, gourmet franchises and grocery shops, the only thing we must do is to ensure its shelf life and long time preservation time. Company strategy In first year, our company will market in Dhaka. Dhaka will be sole market for first year. Then looking through our sales history we will expand our business opportunities to other big cities of Bangladesh. More products that will be processed in same way and will be included in product line after making a good repute in the history. Machinery requirement We use few kinds of machinery in our industry. Like crusher machine for crash sugarcane, filter machine for filter the crushed juice, labeling machine, can lid machine etc. Our plant capacity will be 3500-4000 Liters per day. Preservation system for sugarcane Aqueous ammonia (28% NH3 w/v) was mixed with 500ml batches freshly extracted sugarcane juice at level of 0, 0. 5, 1. 0, 1. 5, 2. 0, 2. 5 and 30% (w/v). the mixture were at a room temperature is sealed glass containers for 7 day period to measure changes in pH and Brix of the juice. Result for pH Brix during 7 days after treatment are shown in Table 1. It gives the trends in these measurement for aqueous ammonia level of 0, 0. 5, 1. 0, 1. 5 and 2%. Results for higher concentrations were identical to those for 2% aqueous ammonia. It is obvious that ammonia works well as a preservation especially if fairly high level are used, at level above 2% w/v the juice becomes less palatable for cattle and such situations if should bereft to stand until the excess ammonia dissipates. It has been suggested by Leng and Preston (1976) that the optimum level of available nitrogen in the rumen to ensure optimum synthesis of microbial protein in 3 g N/100 g of fermentable organic matter. Taking this case of cane juice at 14 Brix, then this world require about 1. 5% (w/v) of aqueous ammonia (28% NH3 w/v) in order to provide the required amount of available nitrogen for microbial protein synthesis. In the experiment reported here, the inclusion of from 1. 5-2. 0% aqueous ammonia in the sugarcane juice, thus provided the necessary amount of Nitrogen for rumen systematic protein and also preserved the juice over 6 days. Whats in the Can Essays

Whats in the Can Essays Whats in the Can Essay Whats in the Can Essay One afternoon, while finishing up your shift as the stock manager at Circus Supermarket, the manager tells you that he desperately needs some help with an inventory problem. In the back of the store, he shows you an unmarked, unopened tin can and explains that the stores owners are threatening to fire him and all his staff if they cannot keep track of the items that they sell. He asks you to help him figure out what is inside. There is one catch: He does not want to open the can, just in case there is something expensive inside. During this weeks discussion, your instructor will play the role of the Circus Supermarket store manager. Your instructor will answer any questions you have about the can, and you should keep all the answers to all the questions asked in mind as you work on a theory about what is in the can. After you have asked at least two questions of your own and have read the answers to all the other questions your classmates have asked up until that point, you should come up with and post a specific, testable hypothesis about what is in the can. You should also request that the store manager do things to the can and then report back the results to you. For example, if you would like to ask, What sounds do you hear when you shake the can? , that will count as one of your questions. Use all the evidence that your classmates have acquired as you write your hypothesis. During the week, you should also respond to your classmates questions and revise your hypothesis if a new piece of evidence emerges that proves your hypothesis incorrect. The facts about the can It’s a food item standard tin can – The can is 4 1/2 inches tall and 3 inches in diameter. It weighs 17 ounces. It makes a sloshing sound when shaken so it has both solid and liquid in it Will sink to the bottom of a bucket of water. There is a marking on one end of the can: 40OLFPF/227A The can rolls evenly. Was found in room temperature not a cooler Need a can opener to open it It is a standard tin can with ribbed sides When dropped, the can falls quickly and hard. No bouncing! The possibilities of the can pineapple chunks – very acidic diced tomatoes -does not make a sloshing sound very acidic auerkraut- does not make the sloshing sound easily cranberry sauce- does not make a sloshing sound easily very acidic green beans- sank made a very little sloshing sound black olives- sank, made a very good sloshing noise artichoke hearts – did not have one to compare corn- sank, made a very little sloshing sound cream of mushroom soup – does not make a sloshing sound tomato paste- does not make a sloshing sound There are three types of cans tin coated, tin free, and bi-metal. Since it is a standard tin can I am automatically ruling out any acid foods. Acidic foods have been found to cause corrosion in tin, this would open the company up to lawsuits. After matching the can to the requirements I narrowed it down to: corn, green beans, and olives. I would have to go with a can of pitted black olives. It sank, made a sloshing sound, is not very acidic so can go into a tin can, fit the dimensions, falls quickly, rolls evenly. It was not a name brand either. 8 Tips for Students Starting College

8 Tips for Students Starting College With so many options available for college students, knowing how to make wise choices becomes critical for success. These eight tips can help set you up for a strong first-year experience. 1. Goto Class This is number one for a reason. College is an amazing experience, but you cant stay if you fail your courses. Missing class is one of the worst things you can do. Remember: your goal is to graduate. How are you going to do that if you cant even make it to class regularly? 2. Participate in Events Early on- Especially During Orientation Lets be honest: not all events aimed at first-year students are super exciting. Tours of the library and silly-sounding mixers may not be your thing. But they connect you to the campus, help you meet people, and prepare you for academic success. So roll your eyes if you must, but go. 3. Don't Go Home Every Weekend This can be especially tempting if you have a boyfriend or girlfriend at home or if you live close to your school. But going home every weekend prevents you from connecting with other students, getting comfortable with your campus, and making it your new home. 4. Take Risks Do things that are outside of your comfort zone. Never been to a program that explored a certain religion? Never tried a kind of food thats available in the cafeteria? Never introduced yourself to someone from a certain country? Step outside of your comfort zone and take some risks. You went to college to learn new stuff, right? 5. Sign Up for a Class You Know Nothing About Just because youre pre-med doesnt mean you cant take a course in astronomy. Expand your horizons and take a subject you never even considered. 6. Learn How to Say "No" This may be one of the most challenging skills to learn when youre first in school. But saying yes to everything that sounds fun, interesting, and exciting will lead you to trouble. Your academics will suffer, your time management will be horrible, and youll burn yourself out. 7. Ask for Help BeforeIt's Too Late Colleges are generally pretty good places; no one there wants to see you do poorly. If youre struggling in a class, ask your professor for help or go to a tutoring center. If youre having a hard time adjusting, talk to someone in the counseling center. Fixing a smaller problem is almost always easier than fixing a big one. 8. Stay on Top of Your Finances and Financial Aid It can be easy to forget that appointment with the Financial Aid Office or that deadline by which you had to submit a simple form. If you let your finances slip, however, you can quickly find yourself in a lot of trouble. Make sure youre sticking with your budget throughout the semester and that you always know the status of your financial aid package.
